New surface on part of the racing circuit will probably lead to new circuit records

Part of the racing circuit in the Most Autodrom will get a new asphalt surface and curbs. The contractor milled the parts of the circuit which no longer complied with the criteria of the FIA and FIM Europe.

In a 630-metre long section, corresponding to an area of 7500 square metres, it is necessary to replace unsatisfactory asphalt and create a functioning drainage system, so that rainwater can be more quickly removed from the circuit. "The surface was very rough, in some places we are in fact going to be replacing the original asphalt from 1983. There's also a large number of asphalt patches on the circuit, each with its own coarseness, which of course affects the results and safety of drivers," explained Michal Marek, the sports manager at Autodrom Most.

Aside from improving the unsatisfactory state of the track, Marek claims that the new surface and curbs will also improve performance on the track. "I expect the track to be faster after the adjustments. That is why I expect new track records, in the motorcycle and truck categories." The same is not likely to happen for cars, though. There the record is held by a DTM car, which can only be matched by formula racing cars. Although, who knows – we might be surprised. While for trucks the improvement could amount to fractions of a second per lap, for motorcycles we could see improvements of a second or more. That is because the home stretch will allow significantly faster driving speeds," explained the sports manager.
