Lacko Still in the Lead after the Saturday Truck Race in Most

The FIA European Truck Racing Championship FIA (ETRC) continues with the anniversary Czech Truck Prix event on the Most motor-racing circuit this weekend. Jochen Hahn of Germany became the unchallenged winner of the first Saturday race leading in his IVECO truck from start to finish. Having started on the second row, current driver standings leader Adam Lacko of the Roudnice-based Buggyra team was running third but eventually managed to beat Norbert Kiss of Hungary after long attacks and rejoiced at the runner-up spot at the flag. Hahn and Kiss were ranked joint second after five European championship race weekends.

Race 2, with the top eight drivers starting in reverse order as compared with their finish positions in Race 1, was won by Ryan Smith of Great Britain driving a MAN. Lacko had to stagger along from the fourth row. Eventually, he could move to the final fourth place thanks, in part, to cooperation with his team-mate David Vršecký who finished sixth in Race 1 and started on the second row in Race 2. Vršecký crossed the line close behind Lacko which meant that his performance made a direct contribution to the Buggyra team’s retaining the lead in the Constructors’ Championship. German female driver Steffi Halm showed very well in Race 2 breathing down Smith’s neck in the closing stages. Her fellow countryman Sascha Lenz claimed the final podium position.

After the two Saturday races, Adam Lacko still leads the championship with a comfortable margin of fifty-six points ahead over his closest title rival, Hahn. Traditionally, the fans crowded the stands, spectator bank as well as paddock in great numbers and added to a great atmosphere at both races.

“We were worried about the weather conditions a little bit. After all, it had rained all day long on Friday. But as I saw a multitude of people during the Friday multi-tonne-truck parade through downtown Most, I believed that the motoring enthusiasts would not let us down and arrive at the race itself as well. They deserve many thanks for that. And I’m happy that the weather has improved. Hopefully, we will have a sunshine-filled day on Sunday, the final day of our prestigious event”, said Jiří Volovecký, Chief Executive Officer, AUTODROM MOST.

Again this year, the FIA ETRC programme includes support races; the Clio Cup CE and KIA Lotos Race series, to be specific. Tomáš Pekař followed in Adam Lacko’s footsteps on home soil proving a dominant force in the Clio Cup series. Although he started from sixth in Race 1 in Most, he delivered a fantastic performance and finally took the chequered flag at number 2 receiving tumultuous ovations from the spectators. Thus, Pekař easily consolidated his position as the leader of the pack.

The Czech Truck Prix continues on Sunday with the remaining two truck races and two KIA Lotos Race series races to be run. The final Clio Cup race is also on the programme.
