Truckers testing in Most, accident reported

03.05.2009 14:27

Top truckers are testing their skills these days on the Most Motor Racing Circuit. Egon Allgäuer, the 2002 European champion, and his team moved into the paddock. Last year’s champion, David Vršecký and his teammate, the 2007 champion Markus Bösiger represent the Buggyra team. The latter experienced an ugly-looking crash during the tests on Thursday.

Everything happened at the moment when the flat spring in the left fore axle of Bösiger’s Freightliner broke at high speed. "The truck stopped responding; it refused to turn and went off the track. I was left to watch helplessly as I crashed against the crash barrier," commented the Swiss pilot. "It was quite a bang, but fortunately nothing happened to me. This is a safe vehicle. It would have been worse with a formula," he added.
David Vršecký was discussing the behaviour of the uncontrollable car with his colleague, then he started to talk about the reasons for the current testing in Most: "We were here last autumn, and at the beginning of March this year. First we compared the bearings of the old and new models, and now we’ve moved our tuning to the stage where we’re beginning to feel satisfied. The weather is on our side, and we’re trying to squeeze out everything there is in the vehicles," added the pilot. When asked about the times, he smiled cryptically. "Times? Good. What can I tell you? We are here first of all to find out about the limits of individual components. You know, it's not enough to make one really fast lap. We have to do eleven laps during the race here. What happened to Markus is an exact example of what we’re testing. We apologize for the damaged crash barrier. I think it will be very exciting this year. It's clear that our competitors aren’t sleeping and they’re calling to arms as well. So let me invite all truck fans to come here to Most during the last weekend of August. No doubt we will try to show off at home. I recommend all the local races to motor sports enthusiasts, but the Czech Truck Prix will be definitely the best," he added.
Veteran of the European Truck Championship Egon Allgäuer was running his yellow MAN truck on the circuit, also happy with the results of the spring tests on the Most Motor Racing Circuit so far. "We have a new model and we’re speeding up. Logically we are looking for optimum settings, and I have to tell you we’re quite successful. The weather is another pleasing factor. And the local track and the infrastructure, well, that's been a standard to look forward to," the Austrian trucker relished. When asked about his plans for this season, he spoke mostly about the potential of the new technology and the frequent climate changes ahead of him in this season. "We’ve registered for the European Truck Championship and Formula Truck, which takes place in Brazil. Therefore, we’ll shuttle between Europe and South America. It’s really interesting that racing in Most will finally help us to succeed in races on the other side of the globe," Allgäuer smiled.

The agreeable spring weather is certainly attracting more and more racers to the Most Motor Racing Circuit, preparing for this year's season. Passenger and formula cars have been seen here, and even the first bikers. The traditional first meeting and technical inspection of the participants in the thirteenth Octavia Cup Česká pojišťovna will be on Friday 3 April. This very competition will be the main race in the first event of the 2009 season, which bears the name of the attractive Cup. The Most Motor Racing Circuit is inviting fans of the Česká pojišťovna – Škoda Octavia Weekend for 15 - 17 May.
