Consistency and Stability to Strengthen Growth in FIA ETRC

The European Truck Racing Association [ETRA] today announces its provisional plans for the 2019 FIA European Truck Racing Championship calendar. The season dates, which are yet to be ratified by the FIA World Motorsports Council, are set to include the same spine as the popular 2018 calendar maintaining consistency and stability as the FIA ETRC goes from strength to strength.

In addition to the eight circuits which were used this season, ETRA is working hard to formalise a ninth date to the calendar at a well-known and challenging circuit.

The provisional calendar being worked on by ETRA sees a season start at the popular Misano-Adriatico circuit in Italy which has hosted FIA ETRC races for several years. A firm favourite for the season start, Misano has seen consistent increases in both fans and industry guests and exhibitors over recent years.

The Hungaroring is expected to keep its June slot, while July will see a new look as Slovakia Ring is planned for the weekend of 6/7 July and the famous ADAC German Truck Grand Prix festival at the Nürburgring is scheduled to be moved back to the 19/20/21 July. This event is one of the highlights of the motorsports year with well over 100,000 people descending on the famous German venue for an unforgettable weekend of track action and superb attractions off the track.

The FIA ETRC aims to keep its highly-charged quick-fire end to the season with four races in six weeks through September and October. This run-in is the same as 2018 with events at Most, Zolder, Le Mans Bugatti and Jarama.

Commenting on the planned 2019 calendar, ETRA Director Rolf Werner was clear on the goals laid down for another season of FIA ETRC action. "By presenting these plans for 2019 we want to send out a clear and progressive message that we are balancing a core consistency in where we race with the vision of looking at new territories and markets," said Werner. "We have been talking to several new for FIA ETRC circuits for several years now," continued Werner.

"There has been a surge in interest in the FIA ETRC this year and we have had many new full-season entrants at our races.  The success stories of drivers such as Shane Brereton, who won this year’s GRAMMER TRUCK CUP category, shows new drivers can come straight in and start building a great winning legacy. Overall, ETRA feels that the balance is right for our proposed 2019 calendar. However, we are always looking at new events and will continue to do so. There is a confidence that we can bring several over the coming years and further grow prospects for all teams, drivers, partners and stakeholders," concluded Werner.

The planned 2019 calendar will be submitted shortly to the FIA and will await final sanctioning before being made official.
