A Crowd of 100,000 Fans Urge Home Drivers Forward for Victory

The twenty-fifth anniversary Czech Truck Prix attracted a crowd of ninety-five thousand fans to the Most motor-racing circuit this weekend. The sixth round of this year’s FIA European Truck Racing Championship brought spectacular battles on the track and success achieved by home drivers. “Slightly less people have come to visit the event than last year. Anyway, we are very satisfied with the crowd figures and grateful to the fans for creating such a wonderful atmosphere. The home drivers, above all, rewarded them with fantastic performances”, said Jiří Volovecký, Chief Executive Officer, Autodrom Most, evaluating the most prestigious event on the company’s annual calendar.

The spectators also saw a lot of nail-biting and interesting moments during the two Sunday truck races. Adam Lacko of the Roudnice-based Buggyra team won the first one leading from start to finish, followed by German Jochen Hahn. The second runner-up spot went to Antonio Albacete of Spain. It was Shane Bereton of Great Britain who drove to victory in Race 4 where the top eight finishers from the previous day had started in reverse order. Lacko’s team-mate David Vršecký achieved an excellent result withstanding big pressure from Steffi Halm and coming in second.

With three rounds still to go in the championship, Lacko took advantage of the home event in Most to stretch his lead at the top of the championship provisional classification to 60 points over Hahn, and Buggyra strengthened its dominance in the Constructors’ Championship.

The Czech fans were no less pleased with another Czech driver, Tomáš Pekař, who proved himself to be a superb Renault cup racing driver. After his runner-up spot in Race 1 on Saturday, he showed a brilliant chase and won the Sunday Race 2. Like Lacko, Pekař leads the Clio Cup standings. Merciless duels often ending in gravel traps could also be seen between the participants in another support race, the KIA Lotos Race series, over the race weekend.

Apart from a sporting experience, the Czech Truck Prix offered the spectators an opportunity to save human lives. Like last year, the motor races became part of the Jedu na dřeň! (drive for bone marrow) campaign, held under the patronage of the Autoclub of the Czech Republic (ACCR). All visitors to Autodrom Most ranging in age from 18 to 35 had the chance to join the bone marrow donors registry. “We managed to win 101 new potential bone marrow donors over the weekend. Thus, the registry has increased by 700 to 800 courageous motor racing fans this year so far. We will know precise data later. We appreciate the fans’ approach very much,” said Jana Sklenářová of the Jedu na dřeň campaign organising team.

The race weekend included a traditionally varied programme of side events featuring a lot of entertainment and attractions as well as a new side act: the Truck Festival, a part of which was a Monster Truck Show. The show involved pick-up truck bodies mounted on high chassis with giant tyres crashing passenger cars. Adrenaline-pumping experiences were intensified by car chases, flips, driving through fire, wheelies and spins. And, of course, there were parade laps around the track involving the trucks participating in the festival on both Saturday and Sunday.
