Race weekend at Most: NASCAR in the air and Lacko’s double podium

The Most motor-racing circuit has been through another very busy race weekend. The spectators have enjoyed a thrilling spectacle with cars flying through the air and Czech representatives making the winners podium.

The last weekend of the summer school holiday is traditionally associated with the FIA European Truck Racing Championship at Most. This year, that event was joined by the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and MAXX Formula races. On both Saturday and Sunday, five big races were on the programme where a lot of dramatic situations could be seen.

Among the trucks, the Czech Republic was represented by the experienced driver Adam Lacko of the Buggyra Racing team. The first Saturday race, affected by varying weather conditions, brought the second runner-up spot to Lacko, who makes no secret of the fact that he likes driving in wet road conditions. But in the second race, he finished a lowly eighth due to some technical problems. Nevertheless, the mostly sunshine-filled Sunday was even more successful for Lacko. In Race One, he defended his second place after several laps of nail-biting battle. “At first, I was chased by German Jochen Hahn, then by his compatriot Sascha Lenz. Both of them tried to overtake me several times per lap, but I held my line and gave them no chance,” said Lacko describing his flawless drive. In Race 2 in the afternoon, Lacko finished fourth. Most points from Most for the European championship standings go to Norbert Kiss, a flying Hungarian, who scored two first-place finishes and one third-place finish during the weekend.

The second part of the OMV MaxxMotion NASCAR Show race weekend offered an even more dramatic spectacle. Almost thirty big American stock cars producing the same 400 horsepower and using identical OMV MaxxMotion fuel, with the only differences being some car-body design details, promised pure racing and a real turmoil in a tricky chicane at the end of the start-finish straight. The greatest stars of the starting grid included Jacques Villeneuve, a former Formula One world champion and an Indy 500 winner, who came home eleventh on Saturday and fourth on Sunday. The Czech Martin Doubek celebrated his third spot on Saturday while he retired due to a technical trouble on Sunday.

It was also MAXX Formula that contributed to a varied programme of the race weekend. This series combines several categories of powerful Formulas of the past (Formula One, GP2, Superleague Formula, IndyCar and more). Unfortunately, Veronika Jaksch, the only Czech starter, reached the finish line only in the first race.

However, the last weekend of the summer school holiday does not mean the end of great racing events at Most this season as the Autodrom will host two world championship rounds for the first time over the weekend of 9–10 October 2021. A round of the world’s top touring car racing series returns to the Czech Republic after ten years thanks to the Autoclub of the Czech Republic. At the same date, Most will also welcome the best FIM EWC motorcycle endurance riders. The participants will include Karel Hanika and some more Czech riders.
